About the review

The review examined all facets of the parole system in Queensland.

As part of the submissions process, the review team sought feedback on the operations of the parole boards, decision making and accountability, risk to the community, the legislative framework for parole and court ordered parole, and the factors that lead to success or failure on parole, including the effectiveness of parole supervision, management, monitoring and rehabilitation.

Submissions closed 14 October 2016.

The report, which included findings and recommendations, was provided to the Premier and Minister for the Arts and the Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services and Minister for Corrective Services on 1 December 2016.

Conducting the review

Mr Walter Sofronoff QC was appointed to lead the review, with Mr Michael Hodge and Mr Andrew McLean Williams counsel assisting.

Mr Walter Sofronoff QC

Mr Sofronoff QC was admitted to the Bar in 1977 and later commissioned as Queen’s Counsel in 1988. Mr Sofronoff QC served as Queensland’s Solicitor-General from 2005-2014. Mr Sofronoff QC was appointed as Commissioner of the Grantham Floods Commission of Inquiry between May and October, 2015.

Mr Michael Hodge was admitted to the Queensland Bar in 2004.

Mr Andrew McLean Williams was admitted to the Bar in 1992.
